WMU: Live it as you go
2009 Give-a-Thon
We want to thank everyone who had a part in the coat drive for the Give A Thon. We had 120 requests for coats—10 from the Rye Cove High School, 20 from the Rye Cove Intermediate School , and the remaining requests were from the Duffield Primary School.
We distributed coats on Thursday , November 5, at the primary school. Those trying on coats and helping with the distribution were Marian Arwood, Bridgett Arwood, Connie Smith, Jessica Roach, Andrea Jessee, Vanessa Jessee, and Mary Anne Mullins from Grace Community Church.
The churches who participated in purchasing coats for this distribution were Grace Community, Three Bells, Burkes Union, and TVBC.
Thanks to all who bought a coat, helped organize the drive, and those who took time to go and try the coats on the children, writing names in them, and matching them with gloves and a toboggan. We saw many smiling faces when the children saw their new coats!
Walk for the Cure
On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Thomas Village Baptist Church participated in the 4th Annual Susan G. Komen Tri-Cities Race for the Cure at Memorial Park in Kingsport.
The Race itself is 5K (3.1 mi.), but it is much more than a race for runners and fitness walkers. It is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to show support of those who are winning the battle with breast cancer, to honor loved ones who have lost the battle, and to help raise funds to fight the disease.
The funds raised will support Susan G. Komen’s promise, “to save lives and end breast cancer forever, by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cure.” Up to 75% of the net amount collected goes to fund grants in the Tri-Cityies Affiliates, a 22-county region in NE TN, SW VA, and Western NC, and at least 25% will fund breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen, Race for the ‘Cure scientific grants program.
The team of TVBC raised a total of $7,508.00, and came in 4th place in Top Team Fund Raisers in the Tri-Cities. “To God be the Glory.” We had a total of 26 team members signed up to walk, other members’ friends, family members, and businesses donated money for the cure.
Thanks to everyone who participated in giving financially and/or participated in the walk.
We give God all the Glory!
