Senior Adults Activities
Approximately 40 Thomas Village Baptist Church Senior Adults and guests enjoyed a great time at the annual Christmas Social at the home of Joe and Anna Carter on November 29. As always, Hazel Stanley, Director of Senior Activities, planned an event with delicious food, lots of fun and games, outstanding entertainment, and good fellowship. Everyone was especially glad that Garry and Sarah Edwards were able to attend. It was so good to see them and to know they are doing so well.
Dr. Jack Stallard of King College provided the music and led the group in a lively Christmas Carol sing-a-long. Dr. Stallard is a native of Rye Cove and it is always a pleasure having him participate in the celebration. Thanks, Jack, for a job well done!
Very special guests, Doris and Wayne Bowman, home missionaries with Cedine Bible Ministries, were on hand to help usher in the Christmas season. Doris, who was the keynote speaker for the 2008 TVBC Women’s Conference, provided more fun and entertainment with her skit about how to get into the spirit of the Christmas Season. She also led the group in a lively musical production using hand bells. Who knew there were so many talented musicians at TVBC?
A skit entitled “The Inn Keeper’s Wife,” written by Lou Baxley and performed by Tracy Bowers, was a reminder of the real “reason for the season” and gave a unique twist to the story of the inn keeper who had no room for Joseph and Mary on that momentous night of Jesus’ birth. Good job, Lou and Tracy.
As always, the group welcomed our very own Nathanial Smith, who played a repertoire of Christmas carols on his violin. Thanks, Nathanial, for brightening our night with your great talent.
And, as a finale, Hazel gave each departing guest a “Survivors Gift from God” gift bag containing fourteen items to be used to help get them through the stress of the season.
